Hearts For Haiti Lights Up Webster Groves
WEBSTER GROVES, MO (KTVI-FOX2)-- Hearts dominate the front of a home in Webster Groves Missouri. It's not just an excessive celebration of Valentine's Day. The woman who lives there says she is conducting what she calls her "Hearts for Haiti" campaign. She's seeking donations that folks can shove through her front door.
Laurie's followed the quake story closely because she's a friend of Dee Leahy. Dee runs an orphanage in Haiti and was there when the quake hit.
"I felt like I was in 9-11. I was covered and my mouth was full of sand and dust and we ran to the children." said Dee Leahy.
Laurie has about a thousand hearts in front of her house which are illuminated at night. Many of them she's made herself using everyday items like muffin tin liners. Laurie got eight grandchildren and has managed to get them into the spirit of this charity.
Laurie will keep her effort going throughout the month of February. Her big dream is to visit Haiti this summer and do what she can to help Dee at the orphanage.
